The console is the one screen you operate during a service. Everything else in Live Translation is preparation for it.

Before the service

  1. Open Live Translation on the machine connected to your audio. It opens on the Console tab — the other tabs are Settings and History.
  2. On the Console, in Where does the sound come from?, set Feed to Sound desk input and pick the Device that carries your sound desk mix. (This device’s audio captures a window or tab instead, and needs Chrome or Edge.) If none is chosen yet, Go live asks for the microphone and then which input to use.
  3. Check your languages are set the way you want them — see Choose translation languages.
  4. Share the caption link or QR code with whoever needs it — see Share a caption link.
  5. Speak a few words and check that the Level meter in Where does the sound come from? says Speaking. Captions only appear once you go live, so for a full test go live for a minute, check them, and end the session.

Going live

Press Go live. That single button opens the session, connects the captioning engine and publishes captions to everyone reading along. There is nothing else to press.

During the service

  • Watch the captions on the console. If they stop, the audio has stopped reaching the console — check that before anything else.
  • Nonsense captions almost always mean poor audio, not a broken translation. Look at levels and microphone routing.
  • Names and unusual words can be taught in advance under Settings → Captions → Custom vocabulary, which is worth doing for the ones your church says every week.
  • Keep the Console’s browser tab open. You can move to other pages in SynaiConnect while captions run, but closing the tab or the laptop stops them; screens keep showing the last line.

Pausing for music or prayer

When the service reaches a song, a prayer or anything else you do not want translated, press Pause translation on the Console, next to Clear and Resync. Captions and translated audio stop on every screen and phone, phones show Captions are paused, your translation hours stop counting, and the Console’s status line says Translation paused. When the speaking starts again, press Resume translation and captions come back within a few seconds.

  • The session stays live while it is paused: the same QR code, the same links and one transcript. There is no need to end the session and go live again.
  • You can speak as soon as you press Resume translation. The first words are kept while captions reconnect.
  • A pause can last up to 45 minutes. The Console warns you two minutes before, and after that the session ends on its own. History then shows Pause limit as the reason.
  • In a narrow window, Pause translation, Clear and Resync show as icons only. Hover over one to see its name.
  • Mute voice, on the Phones preview, is different: it stops only the translated audio on phones, captions continue, and your hours keep counting.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • ⌘D on a Mac, Ctrl+D on Windows — pause or resume translation. Paused time is not charged.
  • ⌘↵ on a Mac, Ctrl+Enter on Windows — go live. While live, the same keys ask whether to end the session: press Enter to end it, or Esc to keep it running.
  • The shortcuts work while the Console is on screen, and not while you are typing in a field.

Ending the session

Press End session (or ⌘↵ / Ctrl+Enter), then confirm. Captions stop on every screen and phone, and the transcript is saved to History.
